One of the most fun projects I created while working in the Robotics Lab has been developing a process for drawing three-dimensional objects with light using long-exposure photography. I program the robot arm to move an LED in the shape of an object. With all the lights turned out, I capture a series of photographs with a long shutter speed to capture images like those seen below. Finally, I composite all of the images together in photoshop to create photographs like the one seen to the right. To my knowledge, this is the first time a robot has been used in this way. It is very rewarding to work with these machines and create art using them.
